A Mermaid Family

A couple days ago Big Sis and I had this conversation.

Big Sis: Mom, I want to be a mermaid. I am going to ask Heavenly Father to make me a mermaid.
Me: I don't think he can do that, you are a human and can't breathe underwater.
Big Sis: I can eat some seaweed, then I can breathe under water. (Note: If you've ever watched Barbie Mermaidia then you will understand the seaweed reference here! If not all I can say is lucky you!!!)
Me: That really doesn't work its make believe. Besides you would be all alone, your family would still be human.
Big Sis: Then I want Heavenly Father to make us a mermaid family.
Me: We can't Big Sis, we are human, but we can swim together and go diving with air tanks. We just wouldn't be able to live underwater without breathing.
Big Sis: (sobbing) But I really wanted to be a mermaid family.
Me: I know I used to dream of the same thing when I was little. My friend and I would pretend we were mermaids when we went swimming in her pool. It is a really nice thing to make believe.

Here's to our dreams of becoming a mermaid...

This could almost be Big Sis in 10 years!

Happy Birthday

But whose birthday is it... Take a guess is it Lil Sis, Big Sis, or me?

"Happy Birthday to die Eva" (I'm sure you all guessed right, those photos are pretty vintage!)

Pool Days

We have been spending ours days out back in the pool. Big Sis has taught herself to swim this past week. It looks a little like she is drowning, but we'll focus on technique some other time. Hooray for me, I don't have to pay for lessons! She has been swimming in the deep end as well. Lil Sis is still content just using the floaties. They picked up some of my books and were pretending to read. (Notice the book is upside down)

Found

Lil Sis was found napping Sunday ready to dance...

Ever since the dance recital she has been wearing her ballet shoes and singing "Me and My Teddy Bear". She begged for the shoes when we went to purchase some new ones for Big Sis. She also insists on wearing them to Big Sis dance class. I think its time to sign her up for a class.

Chillin' in our backyard...

this weekend was this magnificent specimen.

Lil Sis pointed him out on Friday afternoon, "look mommy a big bird." It took be a minute to find what she was referring to. I was stunned when I did see it. He/she has been hanging out all weekend long in the backyard. The red-tailed hawk didn't seem too afraid of the girls. They were swimming in the pool while it was perched on the waterfall just 5ft. away. We spotted a second one too. My dad thinks there might be a nest nearby as we keep hearing them call to one another.

Made me laugh

Found this on a blog I frequent, Design Mom. Had a good laugh so I thought I would share. I haven't really done the whole organic thing yet, maybe someday I won't be so lazy and I'll do some research for the health of my family.

She Did It!!!

Big Sis had her first dance recital and she actually took to the stage and performed. I wasn't sure it would happen. Her last few brushes with public performance haven't gone so well (ie scripture in primary). Every time she would freeze up, panic, and scowl.

She has been working with her class for the last few months and I have been practicing at home with her the last couple of weeks. Boy was that a challenge. Every time I asked her to practice I would hear an endless amount of excuses and complaints. My legs are tired, etc. Frustrating to say the least, but she did it. I still wasn't sure she remembered all the steps, but Saturday as she performed she really wowed me. Not only did she remember the steps, she was showing love to the audience.

I helped out with her class over the weekend as a Class Mom. That was hard work. Those eleven little 4 year olds are wiggly, but it was fun to be there for Big Sis. So I guess it's official, I am now a stage mom, hopefully the good kind!

Waiting to go backstage.
She loved wearing make-up, but didn't like having to wash it off at night. Safe to say I don't think she'll be asking to wear make-up all the time. She didn't like all the effort afterwards.
With dad before the show.
Me putting on/fixing/adjusting the costumes for the umpteenth time.
Second from the right.

Givin' some love to the audience.

With her biggest fan, Lil Sis. Who can't wait to join her up on stage.

Rockin' Out

Priceless footage of the girls rockin' out to Hannah Montana.
